Emergency crews respond to Levant fire

On Friday, emergency crews responded to a structure fire in Levant.

Firefighters were called to Wing Road to find heavy fire conditions in the back of a home and smoke was pushing through.

WABI news reports, most of the fire was extinguished in 30 minutes however the back of the home is uninhabitable.

Nobody was home and no injuries were reported.

Ellsworth-Downeast Trout Unlimited meeting to be held April 22nd

At 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22 the annual Ellsworth-Downeast Trout Unlimited meeting will take place.

Held at the Moore Community Center in person and online, officer elections will take place, the Rising Trout Award will be announced and an outline of Penobscot Nation river restoration projects will be discussed.

The Bangor Daily News reports the Penobscot Indian Nation’s Fisheries program has completed over 20 habit restoration projects within the last 15  years citing the importance of these annual meetings.

Downeast Trout Unlimited conserves, protects and restores Maine’s cold water fisheries and watersheds.

Northeast Harbor project to amplify MDI as a place to live, work and enjoy

A new project in Northeast Harbor aims to make Mount Desert island a place to live, work and enjoy all year round.

Longtime summer residents John and Johanna Boynton have donated a piece of land on Man Street to Mount Desert Island Historical Society and Island Housing Trust.

WABI news reports leaders at the historical society are exploring housing and community gathering spaces as an option to amplify year-round activities and opportunities in the community.

More discussions are on the way between the two organizations.

Woodlawn launches ‘Bricks at the Barn’ campaign

In an effort to preserve a historical site in Ellsworth, leaders at The Barn at Woodlawn have launched a campaign.

The ‘Bricks at the Barn’ campaign aims to not only enrich the Black House Museum and complete the Barn’s landscaping, it’s an opportunity for community members to be a part of.

You can leave a permanent mark on living history and purchase a commemorative brick to honor a loved one, celebrate family ties or affirm your own connection by etching your name.

EPL to unveil new visual identity during ‘National Library Week’

In an effort to show how libraries play a trusted and valuable role in the community, the Ellsworth Public Library will roll out a new visual identity this week.

If you didn’t know, it’s also National Library Week and EPL’s new brand tagline is ‘For Every Chapter of Your Life.’

It’s a chance to reflect on the commitment to lifelong learning, accessibility and community connection amongst all ages.

Leaders say the rollout will happen in multiple phases starting with the website and social media platforms.

The rebrand itself began in October 2024.

Ellsworth celebrates National Volunteer Appreciation Week

On Sunday, the City of Ellsworth kicked off their ‘National Volunteer Appreciation Week’ to recognize the incredible residents here who keep Ellsworth thriving.

Two honorees will be celebrated this evening during the city council meeting for their work in the community.

First, Rain Perez will receive the Volunteer of the Year award for giving her time every week to volunteer at the Ellsworth Public Library.

There Perez serves as a trustee and supports Ellsworth Rainbow girls and Ellsworth Pride.

The city will also honor Franklin Savings Bank for their support in community activities, investments into scholarship opportunities and business initiatives.
