Fifth probation violation for Eliot Cutler

Former gubernatorial candidate and convicted sex offender Eliot Cutler has been charged with violating his probation for the fifth time.

Court documents show encrypted files and incorrect passwords is the cause for the fourth charged probation violation within the calendar year.

WABI news reports Cutler kept encrypted files on electronic devices and is accused of giving three incorrect passwords through his lawyer to an investigator.

Cutler is due back in court next month.

Ellsworth man indicted for gross sexual assault charge

In January of last year, Ellsworth Police were notified of an alleged assault from DHHS.

That led to the arrest of 34-year-old Justin Whalen of Ellsworth to be arrested for a charge of gross sexual assault.

The Ellsworth American reports Ellsworth PD reported their findings within the investigation to the grand jury leading to Whalen being indicted.

Police say there’s no further details at this time.

Lamoine officials issue fraud advisory 

Officials in the town of Lamoine have been made aware of a new scam targeting building permit applicants.

They say applicants for construction permits have received email messages from an unknown sender demanding payment for “Application Review and Approval Fees.”

Town officials want you to know this is not a legitimate address from the town even though it’s portrayed to be from the town of Lamoine planning division.

The town treasurer advises anyone who received the email to delete it, do not respond and do not open any attachments.

Absentee voting in Mount Desert 

Residents of Mount Desert, town officials want you to know a date has been set to conduct absentee voting.

Absentee ballots are now available and you can visit the towns website to request one or go to the Town Clerk during office hours.

Another option is to have the ballot mailed to you.

Town officials say the town clerk will conduct absentee voting at the Town Office on April 29th from 5-7 p.m.

The annual town meeting candidate election is on May 4.

Maine BMV mobile branch launch

A new mobile branch will launch Thursday under the Secretary of State Department and Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

Two events will honor the portable unit deploying to rural areas of the state to service underserved communities.

The first event will be in Augusta at 10 a.m. right at the BMV branch located on Anthony Avenue and the second will be in Belfast at 3 p.m. at the United Methodist Church.

Barbara Kent Lawrence to speak at NEH Library

On Wednesday, April 29 the Northeast Harbor Library will host a free talk with Barbara Kent Lawrence, an author who will discuss a new book.

Her book ‘Both Sides of the Pond: My Family’s War focuses on Lawrence’s family through the lens of WWII.

Family Puzzle Tournament at Ellsworth Public Library 

Alright families, it’s your time to shine as April Vacation comes to a close.

The Ellsworth Public Library challenges you and your family to get your puzzling on for their family tournament on Friday, April 24.

Starting at 2 p.m. get a team of up to five people and see who can put together a 300 or 500 piece puzzle first.

Of course you’ve got to fuel the brain so snacks will be provided and the winner will get a Zeppa’s gift card.

However, everyone gets to take home a puzzle.
