Heatstroke Prevention tips from Maine Bureau of Highway Safety

The Maine Bureau of Highway Safety reports that vehicular heatstroke is the leading cause of non-crash car-related deaths for children 14 and younger in the U.S.

Now they’re urging parents and caregivers to learn and share information about the dangers of leaving children alone in hot cars.

Once you park, stop, look, lock is a campaign that they’re using to raise awareness.

The highway safety coordinator for the bureau says Maine has very few incidents of children dying in hot cars however one life is one too many.

Tips include making it a habit to look in the back seat every time you exit the car, never leave a child in a car unattended, and teach kids that they can’t get out of rear doors so try the front doors and honk the horn to get the attention of others.
