Unauthorized person enters Ellsworth school

An investigation is underway after an unauthorized person walked into Ellsworth Elementary Wednesday morning.

The individual was escorted out by staff.

The Ellsworth American reports the person entered through the eighth-grade wing at around 9:13 AM and they appeared to be disoriented.

School officials say they believe the person was not a threat to the school however Ellsworth Police did respond.

The publication reports the person was issued a formal no-trespassing order for all Ellsworth School department grounds and fields.

Former Acadia National Park employee sues federal government

A Bar Harbor man is suing the federal government over alleged discrimination after being denied a job.

The man is a former employee of Acadia National Park.

The Bangor Daily news reports the lawsuit was filed in February alleging the man who is Native American and over 40-years-old was denied a job because of that.

This after the man who worked at Acadia from 2017-2022 did multiple jobs and was looking to transfer to other positions.

The publication reports the man alleges his attempts to pursue other jobs motivated supervisors to cancel application processes; however the equal employment opportunity commission dismissed the case.

State representative pleads guilty to violating election law

A Maine state representative from Wilton has pleaded guilty to violating an election law.

Randall Hall entered misdemeanor pleas to unsworn falsification and criminal violation as a part of a plea agreement violating Maine’s Clean Election law.

WABI news reports Hall was sentenced to 48 hours in jail and 100 hours of community service.

10 charges of aggravated forgery were dropped after being accused of forging 10 signatures on clean election documents in 2024.

Community rallies behind Mote family

After the tragic passing of a 20-year-old in Ellsworth the community has stepped up to support the family.

Grayon Mote passed away earlier this month and Helen’s Restaurant in Ellsworth hosted a spaghetti dinner and silent auction to support the family.

On May 20, hundreds of community members poured in, raising nearly $15,000 to support Grayson’s memorial service according to the Ellsworth American.

Community members are exploring other ways to honor Mote by creating a scholarship fund.

Free Fishing Weekend in Maine

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife wants to remind families Free Fishing Weekend is coming up!

On May 30-31 residents and nonresidents can fish in Maine water license-free all weekend!

It’s the perfect time as school is almost complete and the sun is hanging around a little longer.

Officials want to remind fishers this weekend licenses aren’t required however, all other fishing laws and regulations do still apply.

Hosted by the College of the Atlantic is the celebration of student creativity highlighting COA art courses, studies, and senior projects.
