Man dead after fleeing Calais bar following a gun threat

Maine State Police say they’re investigating a deadly crash in Washington County.

On Saturday, the Washington County Sheriff’s office got a report of a man threatening people at a bar in Calais.

Police say they identified the man as 40-year-old Robert Boggia.

They tell Star 97.7 Boggia left the scene in a Corvette and was spotted by a Baileyville police officer going 150 miles per hour and Boggia later crashed.

Police say he was thrown from the car and died.

The investigation is ongoing.

Man accused of kidnapping a woman in Hallowell

A man who is on probation is now accused of kidnapping a woman and holding her against her will.

51-year-old Scott Palmer is on probation for gross sexual assault.

WMTW reports the Hallowell Police Department arrested Palmer on charges of kidnapping, criminal restraint and assault on Friday.

Police say on Friday night they noticed a parked car at the Vaughan woods nature preserve finding Palmer and a female passenger who mouthed help multiple times to officers.

WMTW reports police say the woman said Palmer drove her around Hallowell unwillingly and she feared for her life.

He’s being held on $100,000 bail at Kennebec County Jail.

Ellsworth School Board fills vacant spot

A unanimous vote on June 16 approved a new member to join the Ellsworth School Board.

Officials say Chris Walters is now a part of the board.

The Ellsworth American reports Walters showed interest citing previous experience in Pennsylvania.

The publication reports he is a volunteer firefighter at the Hancock Volunteer Fire Department and says his future mother-in-law has been an Ellsworth teacher for decades.

He was sworn in last week.

FDA recalls blood pressure medication 

Thousands of bottles of blood pressure medication have been recalled by the Food and Drug Administration.

The cause is due to failed dissolution specifications.

WABI news reports that means over 11,000 bottles of chlorthalidone tablets might be ineffective.

The pills issued have an expiration date of April 2027.

Ellsworth Historical Society to host ‘Pints & the Past’ event

The Ellsworth Historical Society is set to host a unique event of its kind Thursday, June 25.
