Chemical odor from Hampton Inn alerts first responders
On Tuesday, the Ellsworth fire department along with other public safety partners responded to a chemical odor at the Hampton Inn at 4 Downeast Highway.
First responders say they identified the localized chemical reaction which involved pool maintenance products in the hotel’s pool room.
Fire crews ventilated the area safely to ensure the building was safe.
One person was transported to a local medical facility for evaluation.
Man charged in Hancock county crash that killed 5-year-old
Following a deadly crash that killed a five-year-old boy, an Indiana man has been arrested and charged.
On Monday, Maine State Police say they arrested 33-year-old Dion Campbell of Elkhart, Indiana.
Police say he’s been transported to Hancock County Jail.
On June 25, Campbell crashed on Route 9 and 193 where a five-year-old was declared dead at the scene and Campbell and a 10-month-old girl were transported to a hospital for non life threatening injuries.
He faces charges of endangering the welfare of a child, driving to endanger, criminal OUI and manslaughter.
Northern Light Blue Hill hospital will host fundraiser for emergency department
Northern Light Blue Hill hospital hosts an event called Starlight Evening.
The event is set to take place on Friday, July 24.
The focus of the event will support the hospital’s emergency department ensuring community members have access to a well-equipped department delivering 24/7 services according to the Ellsworth American.
There will also be a silent and live auction with lovely items like a Cliff House getaway and Red Sox tickets included.

Scallop meeting during Whiting Town Hall
On Wednesday, July 15 an in-person scallop meeting will take place at the Whiting Town Office.
The focus will be the Cobscook Bay scallop fishery.
Organizers say amongst that, discussions will surround future research and management ideas, so they encourage scallop harvesters that operate within the Cobscook Bay area to attend and share their ideas.

Bar Harbor Bank & Trust awards 15 high school graduates
The Bar Harbor Bank and Trust awarded 15 high school graduates for the 2026 career and technical education scholarship!
The $1,000 scholarship is awarded to graduates who participate in a technical career program in high school and plan to attend a college or technical school following graduation.
Recipients will have the chance to apply for an additional $1,000 next year for a second year of college or technical school .
There were more than a few locals who are among the recipients so congratulations to you all!

- James Brasted of Jonesport, Maine, is a graduate of Jonesport-Beals High School and attended the Coastal Washington County Institute of Technology. He plans to study building construction at Eastern Maine Community College.

Planet Fitness set to open in Ellsworth
A popular gym is set to open up in Ellsworth!
Planet Fitness will find a new home at the Ellsworth strip mall in between Hannaford and TJ Maxx.
The Bangor Daily news reports no signs are visible at this time and it’s not clear on when the gym will open however Ellsworth will be the chain’s 14th location in the easternmost part of the country.

Celebrate America’s 250th in Bar Harbor
A long weekend of events is ahead in Bar Harbor to celebrate America’s 250th!
Leaders in Bar Harbor are encouraging the community to decorate stores, lodging establishments, banks, restaurants and more!
To start the day the Bar Harbor Rotary Club will host their pancake breakfast, followed by a craft fair and marketplace at the YMCA.
Then at 10 a.m. the Independence Day parade will get underway followed by a seafood festival, family-fun activities and so much more!
