Democrats make efforts to bid for U.S. Senate seat after Platner announcement
After Graham Platner announced he will withdraw from the U.S. Senate race multiple Democrats have stepped up to put their bid in for the seat.
A candidate to replace Platner must be done by July 27.
WABI News reports Troy Jackson, Dr. Nirav Shah, Dan Kleban, Jordan Wood, Paige Loud, Shenna Bellows, Valli Geiger and Andrea LaFlamme have all expressed interest.
Platner announced he would withdraw after being accused of sexual assault.
Maine State Police investigate serious crash in Washington County
On Wednesday, Maine State Police said troopers responded to a serious crash in Trescott Township.
On Dixie Road officers found 24-year-old Christopher Davenport of Northfield ejected from his car after they said he traveled southbound when his car left the roadway.
Police say Davenport was the only person in the car and did not have a seatbelt on.
He was transported to Down East Community hospital and then later transferred to Maine Medical Center with serious injuries.
Police say speed and alcohol appear to be factors.
Massachusetts man arrested in Belfast facing drug charges
Police arrested a Massachusetts man for drug charges after a months-long investigation.
31-year-old Juan Antonio Arias Almonte is charged with aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs.
The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency says agents learned a man was traveling to the Belfast area selling a substantial amount of illegal narcotics.
Agents say Almonte was arrested Wednesday after they found a significant amount of cocaine for resale with an estimated street value of $17,000.
Local bakery closes Ellsworth storefront
On Wednesday a popular bakery chain announced the closure of their storefront in Ellsworth.
Sweet Cheeks bakery offers a wide range of cakes, pastries, and muffins.
The Bangor Daily News says the owners have struggled with filling staff at the location and meeting the rising prices of ingredients along with addressing personal matters.
The announcement did include that their 24-hour vending kiosk in Ellsworth will remain open.
Ellsworth Garden Club & Pink Tulip Festival raffle
The Ellsworth Garden Club and the Pink Tulip Festival have collaborated to sponsor a raffle.
The raffle seeks to raise awareness for Breast Cancer.
You can purchase tickets for a chance to win two tickets from Scenic Flights of Acadia which is valued at over $300.
All proceeds from the raffle will benefit the Pink Tulip Festival and the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center.
You can pick up tickets at the center located at 23 Commerce Park and the draw will be held on Monday, July 20.
