Ellsworth city councilor recall effort officially insufficient
On Monday, City of Ellsworth officials announced that the recall petition of five city councilors is officially insufficient.
This after residents allege five councilors violated city law, have conflict of interest and more.
The Ellsworth American reports after organizers of the effort were granted an extension to get the right amount of signatures, the requirement of 1,279 signatures was not met.
Mattawamkeag man accused of hitting family held on $10K bail
During the popular Loonfest in Lincoln on Saturday a family of four were struck by a vehicle as they were walking on a sidewalk.
Authorities say 57-year-old Carl Hartley was the driver of the car, failed to stop and struck a mother, father and their two young children.
WABI news talked with the family as they’re recovering.
The mother was pinned under the truck and later flown to a hospital in Bangor, the father was able to free himself from under the car and has broken ribs.
The youngest, a three month old was not seriously injured however the five-year-old suffered a laceration to her liver.
Hartley appeared in court on Monday and is being held on $10K cash bail.

Bucksport fighting for vacant lot after failed expectations
After the Bucksport town council agreed to sell a parcel of land in 2023 in hopes of creating more commercial spaces, they’re looking to take it back after nothing has been done.
The vacant lot is a sore thumb along Main Street.
The Bangor Daily news reports the developer did not follow through on the agreement of building a mixed-use development in exchange for a $1 purchase price.
The publication states this also puts a halt to other plans Bucksport officials had in mind such as building more housing.
Now, things could ramp up as the BDN reports the developer has not responded to multiple letters from the town.
Search launched by family of missing New Sweden teen
Stefanie Damron, a missing teen from New Sweden, disappeared on Sept. 23, 2024.
Her family launched a public ground search this Saturday.
WAGM reports volunteers are asked to meet at the ball field behind Northstar Variety in New Sweden at 8 a.m. and the search will start at nine.
A reward of up to $15,000 is being offered for information leading to her safe return.

City of Ellsworth looking to fulfill positions ahead of election
The City of Ellsworth put out an announcement to notify residents that they’re looking to fill multiple positions ahead of the election this year.
Seats they’re looking to fill involve two seats on the city council, four seats on the Ellsworth Public Library Board of Trustees and two seats on the Ellsworth School board.
If you’re interested in serving the community, the nomination papers will be available at City Hall starting Thursday.
New restaurant ready for business in Hancock County
The Astro is the newest restaurant on the block in Brooklin!
The dine-in or take out restaurant has officially opened at their 1 Bay Road location.
WABI news reports the owner says local sourcing for the restaurant is priority as customers will enjoy ice cream made with Maine dairy.
Visitors can also expect Maine-made sausages, curly fried and tostadas.
The owner has a culinary background and Maine roots and he’s looking forward to bringing tasty eats back home.

The Downtown Concert Series in Ellsworth is officially kicking on Thursday, July 23 at the Franklin Street Parklet.
