City of Ellsworth enacts data center moratorium
The City of Ellsworth has taken on a measure that will prevent development of any data center within the city for 180 days.
The moratorium ordinance was voted on Monday night.
The Ellsworth American reports the action will give city officials time to understand the impacts of data centers, management in the case of future development and more.
The publication reports that within the 180 day period, city officials, boards and agencies can’t act upon any application or request for any type of permit involving data centers within the city.

The Maine Bureau of Highway Safety is supporting the National Highway Traffic Safety administration in the high visibility campaign all month through September 7.
The goal of the campaign is to create a message that never leaves motorists – Make good choices, plan ahead and drive sober.
Bridge Hill repairs scheduled to start Aug. 24
The City of Ellsworth announced an update on Bridge Hill after a water main break.
City crews have been working with the Maine DOT and the contractor has determined what is needed to safely repair and reopen the road.
The repairs are expected to start on Monday Aug. 24 and wrap up on Wednesday, Aug. 26.
City leaders say the water main break caused water to move underneath the roadway which damaged pavement and washed out material out of the gravel base.

Ellsworth schools awarded funds to prevent student homelessness
Maine Housing announced that Ellsworth schools will receive funds to prevent student homelessness.
$300,000 is what the agency awarded local schools.
The Ellsworth American reports the award will help schools hire and retain homelessness prevention and housing navigation specialists.
The publication reports the funds could also provide housing stability services and offer financial assistance.
UMaine set to get $4M to build 3D-printed neighborhood for unhoused
The construction of a 3D-printed neighborhood is one step closer to getting started.
The University of Maine will receive $4 million for the project aimed to be built for the homeless in the Bangor-area.
On Wednesday, Sen. Susan Collins announced that UMaine’s Advanced Structures and Composites Center will receive the funds and partner with Penquis.
WABI news reports the home will be designed to get through Maine winters and the development will be the first in Maine constructed from wood sawmill waste.
Rockland’s Middle Pier, Buoy Park redevelopment begins
Construction has started in Rockland to upgrade an essential part of the city.
The city’s Middle Pier and Buoy Park is getting an upgrade after officials reviewed aging conditions and safety issues.
The Pen Bay pilot also says after damage from storms in the past few years, the infrastructure needed an upgrade to have flexible resilience.
