VP visits Compotech in Brewer
Vice President JD Vance touched down in Maine on Monday, delivering remarks at Compotech—a local manufacturer recognized nationally for its cutting-edge ballistic panels and defense shelters.
During his visit, Vance highlighted the business as a model of American reindustrialization.

Pedestrian taken to the hospital after being hit on Main Street
No charges are pending after an Ellsworth woman struck a transient man on Sunday night.
The incident took place at around 8:30 p.m. and Ellsworth police say the car driven by the 58-year-old woman was traveling east on Main Street.
That’s when she struck a 59-year-old transient man.
Investigators say the man stepped into the path of the car outside of a crosswalk without a pedestrian crossing signal.
The driver was not injured and the man was treated at the hospital and later released.
Firefighters save a home and cat in Hancock County
On Sunday morning, a fire broke out at a home in Hancock.
Firefighters rescued a cat and saved the home.
According to the Bangor Daily News, the fire originated in a garage on Acadia Lane and everyone inside the home made it out.
The garage was a total loss however the home is salvageable.
Maine EMS professionals to be honored on Aug. 27
The Maine EMS board announced the 2026 Maine EMS Awards ceremony will take place in the Hall of Flags at the Maine State House on Thursday, Aug. 27.
Starting at 1 p.m. will recognize EMS clinicians, partners and organizations across the state for achievements and their outstanding contributions to emergency medical services.
This year will be the 26th anniversary of the Maine EMS awards serving as an opportunity to express gratitude to those who serve their communities.
Maine’s Fall Foliage season set to start soon
The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry wants you to have a pretty view while you sip on your favorite fall-time treat.
The fall foliage reports will begin on September 9.
After that, reports will be released every Wednesday providing leaf peepers the best guide to viewing the vibrant color changes.
State officials say the peak foliage season will progress from the northern part of the state to the southern portion.
New this year — people can submit their fall-themed event to the state department, which may be featured in the weekly report, giving tourists plenty of fun options to choose from.

Ellsworth City Hall will host ‘Employee Appreciation’ picnic
Ellsworth City Hall will be closed at noon on Thursday, August 27, but for good reason.
City employees will enjoy an appreciation picnic with a delicious lunch and quality time with one another.
It’s advised to plan ahead if you have business to conduct at City Hall on Thursday because they will be open starting at 7 a.m. and regular business hours up until noon.
City leaders say they appreciate your understanding and we especially appreciate the dedicated people who work every day to serve the City of Ellsworth.
Camden Windjammer Fest returns for Labor Day weekend
It was just announced that a community favorite will return to the Camden Public Landing on Sept. 4-5.
The Camden Windjammer Festival will be back inviting residents and visitors to celebrate Camden’s maritime history!
The Pen Bay Pilot reports the weekend will be full of tall ships, live music, local food, art and family activities including the Schooner Bum Talent show, the Camden Rotary club pancake breakfast and the Camden Fire 5K fun run.
Organizers tell the publication they encourage people to check it out and celebrate the connection to the sea.
