Temporary shutdown of Trenton daycare enforced
A daycare facility in Trenton has been ordered to temporarily shut down.
The order came from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.
The Ellsworth American reports Tiny Tikes Daycare underwent an inspection by the Maine DHHS and officials say they found the business immediately jeopardized the health and safety of children enrolled.
The publication reports the order is active for 10 days until 6 p.m. on Aug. 28 however the order will stand unless it’s vacated in writing by the DHHS commissioner.
Family sues boat maker after 2024 Flagstaff Lake incident
In 2024, three people died after a pontoon boat capsized on Flagstaff Lake.
Now the family of the victims are suing the boat maker.
WABI news reports that attorneys filed a wrongful death and product liability lawsuit against the company that manufactures the pontoon boat.
The lawsuit alleges the company knew about design problems that could make the vessel prone to capsizing as it was a part of a recall months before the incident.
Ragged Mountain fire causes concerns amid Midcoast drought
Crews from the Camden Fire Department and the Snow Bowl battled a fire near the top of Ragged Mountain Wednesday morning.
A biker was riding the trails and was met with flames.
The Pen Bay Pilot reports the smoke rose above the rocks and flames grew making it a tough fire to put out.
Officials say the current drought was no helping factor as more assistance was needed.

Drought conditions still a problem across Maine
In Hancock County, drought conditions continue to be a problem.
Water resources in the area are running dry and community members are conserving as much water as they can.
The Ellsworth American reports, private wells have gone dry impacting homeowners and local fire departments.
The publication reports the Surry Fire Department is preparing alternative water sources for ongoing needs and the Tremont Fire Chief says the drought is limiting areas where the department can get water.
Repair fund for Acadia expires
While the National Park Service turns 110 this week, many parks including Acadia are still awaiting funding for key projects.
In 2025, Acadia National Park saw 50 million visitors.
However, the park system faces challenges around maintenance and repairs as the America the Beautiful Act is currently in Congress.
The bill was introduced by Sens. Steve Daines and Angus King seeking to revamp the National Parks and Public Land Legacy Restoration fund which expired in 2025.
