Man charged with attempted murder after police shooting in Calais
In June a man was shot by police in Calais and now he’s been indicted on three counts of attempted murder.
Abinadi White was also indicted by a Washington County grand jury for several other charges.
WABI news reports police officers were attempting to stop White after a traffic stop however he refused arrest, grabbed a sword and swung it at officers.
Officers then shot White and he was taken to the hospital.
The Attorney General’s office is still investigating.
Ellsworth campground moratorium passes
For the next 180 days, development of any campground with five or more sites can’t take place in Ellsworth.
The City council passed the moratorium ordinance on Monday night.
The Ellsworth American reports the ordinance will allow more time to determine the sufficiency of existing land use ordinances.
However, the possible campground proposed at 566 Bayside Road will continue to be discussed as city councilors weigh the relevance of current standards and the possibility of adjustments.
UTV crash injures three children in Orland
On Aug. 29, the Maine Warden Service says three young people suffered minor injuries after a UTV crash.
It happened in Orland.
The Ellsworth American reports authorities say the UTV was being operated by a 14-year-old and two 10-year-old girls along with the driver were taken to the hospital.
A spokesperson for the Maine Warden Service says the incident remains under investigation.
