Man accused of stealing over $10K from RSU 67 district
On Tuesday, authorities arrested a man in Lincoln following a theft investigation.
43-year-old Adam Mahaney is charged with theft by unauthorized taking or transfer and misuse of entrusted property.
WABI news reports the former RSU 67 employee was connected to financial irregularities.
Mahaney was also in charge of processing the district’s payroll on top of serving as the Old Town Recreation Center director and varsity boys basketball coach for Mattanawcook.
Authorities say the investigation determined the theft involved more than $10,000.
Waste rock removal continues at Callahan Mine
Over the next six months, Sargent Corporation has been selected to lead in cleanup efforts at the Callahan Mine Superfund Site.
The project in Brooksville is being completed through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The Ellsworth American reports this phase of the cleanup will be led by Sargent Corporation after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced $1 billion from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to start cleanup and clear the backlog of previously unfunded Superfund sites.
$3.8 million in bonds move forward to finance capital improvements
Another step has been taken to complete capital improvement projects in Ellsworth.
On Tuesday, the Ellsworth City Council approved the $3.8 million in bonds to finance those projects.
The Ellsworth American reports the funds will go toward sidewalk and road projects, improvements upon digital infrastructure and construction of the road to the future Hancock Judicial Center.
The publication reports although the vote authorized the funds, every project that is sought out will have to be approved by the council one by one.
DOL admits to data leak at Bangor Career Center
The personal information of 360 job seekers was accidentally leaked.
It happened on Friday.
WABI news reports the Department of Labor says an email was accidentally sent o a group of people containing names of people registered with the Bangor CareerCenter.
Authorities say no social security numbers were exposed and data was not misused.

Maine DOT conducting rumble strip work in Ellsworth
A reminder for travelers in Ellsworth, the Maine DOT will be conducting rumble strip work along 14 miles of Route 1 Thursday.
It’s a part of a larger statewide safety project and the work is expected to start weather dependent.
Temporary lane closures, alternating one-way traffic, flaggers and short delays are expected near active work areas.

The Shaw’s Give Back Where It Counts reusable bag program highlights organizations throughout the community for their sustainable efforts.
Healthy Acadia’s INSPIRE Recovery Community Center has been selected as a nonprofit partner for September.

Ellsworth Elks Lodge 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony
On Friday, Sept. 11 the nation will pause to remember, honor and never forget those lost in the terror attacks.
The Ellsworth Elks Lodge invites you to join them Friday evening at 5:30 p.m. for a ceremony.
Organizers say the ceremony will be held in their halls and the lounge will close during the ceremony which is expected to last 15-20 minutes.
