Old Town Man Arrested After High-Speed Chase
An Old Town man is facing multiple charges after allegedly leading Maine State Police on a high-speed pursuit before crashing his car and hiding under a porch Thursday night.
Troopers say 57-year-old Charles Michaud was spotted swerving erratically along Route 11 in Palmyra, then fled into Pittsfield where he crashed at North Main Street and Madawaska Avenue.
WABI news reports a state police K-9 team tracked Michaud on foot to a nearby porch, where he was arrested and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police found open alcohol containers in the vehicle and confirmed Michaud was driving with a revoked license.

Southwest Harbor Landfill Capping Project
Construction is officially underway to cap an old municipal landfill and construction debris site in Southwest Harbor that has contaminated neighborhood drinking wells for decades.
Unlined and inactive since the 1990s, the dump site has prompted the Maine Department of Environmental Protection to supply nearby residents with home water filtration systems.
The Bangor Daily news and Maine Public reports while groundwater beneath the site remains contaminated, town officials and environmental regulators say the project will seal off the debris by next September.
Meanwhile long-term efforts will continue to connect affected homes to public water lines.

Ellsworth Hydrant Flushing Advisory
Residents along Bucksport and Surry roads in Ellsworth should anticipate routine water line maintenance beginning Monday, September 28.
The Ellsworth Water Department and Ellsworth Fire Department are teaming up to conduct their scheduled seasonal hydrant flushing program throughout the area. Customers may notice temporary water discoloration or slight pressure drops while hydrants are flowing and are advised to run cold water from their taps until lines run clear.

Authorities stress that no police department, sheriff’s office, or jail will ever call, text, or message demanding immediate payment for bail, fines, fees, or court costs. Scammers frequently use threats of arrest and high-pressure tactics to intimidate victims into sending money via gift cards, wire transfers, payment apps, or cryptocurrency.
Officials urge residents never to send funds and to hang up immediately if they receive a suspicious demand for payment.
