Ellsworth Police Arrest Armed Threat Suspect
Ellsworth police arrested a local man on multiple felony charges nearly two years after he allegedly threatened someone with a gun.
Authorities apprehended 38-year-old Karl Larochelle near the police station on High Street following a brief foot pursuit and physical struggle.
The Bangor Daily News reports investigators secured an arrest warrant in April after learning of the December 2024 incident late last year.
Larochelle is currently held at the Hancock County Jail facing charges of terrorizing with a dangerous weapon, criminal threatening, domestic violence reckless conduct, and child endangerment.

Bangor police charged 21 individuals over a single 24-hour period between Saturday and Sunday.
Department officials reported that more than half of the violations involved suspects breaking conditions of release, totaling 13 separate charges.
WABI news reports officers also responded to multiple property and violent crime calls, issuing citations for criminal trespass, receiving stolen property, domestic violence assault, drug possession, and firearm offenses.

Data Center Developer Eyes Bucksport Mill Site
A commercial developer has quietly scouted the former Bucksport paper mill site for a potential large-scale data center.
The revelation came during a Bucksport Town Council meeting where councilors advanced a proposed 180-day temporary moratorium on data centers to update municipal zoning and environmental rules.
The Bangor Daily News reports backers of the pause cited concerns over heavy energy demand, noise, water usage, and electric grid impacts, while other officials voiced concern that a moratorium could discourage new industrial investment on the mostly vacant, privately owned parcel.

UMaine System Strips George Mitchell Honors
The University of Maine System Board of Trustees voted unanimously Monday to remove former U.S. Senator George Mitchell’s name from campus facilities, scholarships, and academic honors.
The decision follows a university task force review prompted by newly unsealed federal documents regarding Jeffrey Epstein that mentioned Mitchell.
WABI news reports while the task force emphasized there were no formal findings of wrongdoing against Mitchell, trustees concluded retaining his name would compromise public trust.
Effective immediately, the Mitchell Center for Sustainability Solutions in Orono and the Mitchell Peace Scholarship have both been renamed.

Ellsworth Public Library October Programs
The Ellsworth Public Library has rolled out a full calendar of community events and workshops scheduled throughout the month of October.
Highlights include author visits, poetry workshops, the Dick Powell Memorial Chess Tournament, and the annual Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale.
Staff are also hosting seasonal activities for youth and families, featuring autumn craft sessions, pumpkin decorating, and a Halloween party.

Blown Glass Pumpkin Patch in Ellsworth
Artsworth Studios in Ellsworth is hosting its annual Blown Glass Pumpkin Patch this coming weekend as part of Art of Ellsworth and Maine Craft Weekend.
Visitors can stop by the hot glass-blowing shop at 25 Pine Street on Saturday and Sunday to watch live artisan demonstrations as glassblowers shape colorful pumpkins by hand.
The event also features local craft vendors, farmers, and wood-fired pizza and craft beverages from neighboring Fogtown Brewing Company.
The seasonal showcase runs Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
