Belfast Man Charged in April Fatal Crash
A 42-year-old Belfast man has been arrested nearly six months after a deadly head-on crash in Stockton Springs.
State Police say Adam Sorrentino crossed the center line on Route 1 April 13th at over 80 miles per hour, striking and killing 77-year-old Anne Pomroy of Old Orchard Beach.
WABI news reports investigators say his blood alcohol level was over twice the legal limit.
Sorrentino now faces manslaughter, aggravated OUI resulting in death, reckless conduct and other charges.
Hancock-Sullivan Bridge Crash Shuts Down Route 1
A serious crash shut down Route 1 over the Hancock-Sullivan Bridge Tuesday afternoon.
Traffic was diverted onto Route 182 in Hancock and Route 200 in Sullivan while crews worked the scene.
WABI news reports Maine State Police are investigating, and the road reopened around 5:30 p.m.
Tremont Man Pleads Guilty in Acadia Crash
A 42-year-old Tremont man pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court in Bangor to three counts stemming from an August 2025 crash in Acadia National Park.
Gregory Harper crashed his pickup into a tree on Seal Cove Road and fled, turning himself in two days later.
The Ellsworth American reports rangers found open alcohol cans in the truck; Harper told investigators he swerved to avoid a deer.
He faces up to six months in prison and a $5,000 fine on each count at sentencing.
Day Two Testimony in Raymond Brown Murder Trial
Jurors in Machias heard day two of testimony Tuesday in the 1984 murder trial of 67-year-old Raymond Brown of Bangor, accused of killing 18-year-old Linda Maxwell of Calais.
Witnesses included the medical examiner, DNA analysts, first responders, Maxwell’s brother Franklin — who said she couldn’t swim — and her former boyfriend Ronald Todd Miller, who described the last night out at Round Pond.
WABI news reports the defense questioned Miller about prior statements on drinking and jealousy, and Miller said he left town that September.
Testimony resumes Wednesday.
Gouldsboro Awarded Coastal Resilience Grant
Gouldsboro will receive $55,500 from the Maine Coastal Program for a resource and hydrologic study around Sand Cove and Grand Marsh Bay.
Town officials say January 2024 storms proved the Corea Road and Grand Marsh Bay Road corridor is a high-priority vulnerability that could cut off hundreds from emergency services.
Consultants will map conditions, sea-level rise impacts, and flood risk to plan road and culvert fixes with MaineDOT.
It was part of a $299,000 statewide habitat restoration awards package.
New EHS Robotics Team Takes Second
Ellsworth High School’s brand-new VEX Robotics team made a stunning debut just two weeks after forming.
The five-student squad, Team 11629 “Garlic Sauce Electricity,” finished second out of 20 teams at the John Bapst season opener, reaching the championship round.
The Ellsworth American reports the team built a robot for this season’s VEX V5 Override challenge.
They next compete in the Lobstah Bowl international qualifier Oct. 30-Nov. 1 at UMaine Orono, with a shot at April’s World Championship in Las Vegas.
