Fatal Ellsworth Crash
A passenger died and the driver was seriously injured after a vehicle struck two homes on Main Street in Ellsworth early Thursday.
Police say 19-year-old Landon Rockwell of Dedham lost control near the Bucksport and Surry roads intersection; his passenger, 23-year-old Paul Meservey of Orrington, was killed.
WABI news reports Rockwell was taken to a Bangor hospital, and the crash remains under investigation.

Raymond Brown Found Guilty in 1984 Murder
A jury has found 67-year-old Raymond Brown guilty of murdering 18-year-old Linda Maxwell, whose body was found along the St. Croix River in Robbinston in 1984.
The verdict came after a renewed investigation that included dozens of interviews and a second examination of Maxwell’s remains.
WABI news reports prosecutors also presented testimony from a jailhouse witness who said Brown described the killing.
Brown’s defense challenged the investigation and witness credibility, and sentencing will take place later.

State Police Investigate in Carmel
Maine State Police are conducting an active criminal investigation at a home on Plymouth Road in Carmel, near the Etna town line.
A large police presence and the agency’s evidence-response vehicle were seen at the property Thursday.
WABI news reports authorities have not released details and say law enforcement may remain in the area through Friday.

State Funding Allocated to Help PCHC
Penobscot Community Health Care is set to receive state funding intended to help it avoid bankruptcy and continue serving nearly 50,000 Mainers.
State Senator Mike Tipping says the Mills administration has allocated support through the Rural Health Transformation Program, but the amount has not yet been disclosed.
PCHC has warned it needs about $3 million and has recently cut services, closed offices, frozen pay and laid off employees, according to WABI news.

Maine Astronaut Jessica Meir Returns to Earth
Caribou native and NASA astronaut Jessica Meir has returned to Earth after an eight-month mission aboard the International Space Station.
SpaceX Crew-12 splashed down off the California coast Thursday morning, with Meir serving as the mission commander.
During the mission, she passed 400 days in space over her career and completed her seventh spacewalk.

Ellsworth Fall Family Fun Festival
Families are invited to the Fall Family Fun Festival Friday, October 23, at Ellsworth’s Moore Community Center.
The event runs from 5 to 7 p.m. and will feature books, bingo, games, pumpkins and a spaghetti dinner.
Suggested donations are $5 per person or $15 per family.
