Body Recovered from Vehicle in Washington County

The Maine Warden Service recovered a body Tuesday from a vehicle with out-of-state plates found off Amazon Road in Grand Lake Stream.

Authorities say the vehicle had apparently been there for several weeks before it was discovered.

WABI news reports the body was transported to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta for identification and to determine a cause of death.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says the death does not appear suspicious.

Further details are expected once the medical examiner’s findings are complete.

Eliot Cutler Reports Back to Jail

Former gubernatorial candidate Eliot Cutler, 80, reported to the Hancock County Jail Thursday to serve time for three probation violations.

A judge last month ordered him back into custody after finding he possessed an internet-capable phone, accessed pornographic material online, and possessed pornographic DVDs in South Portland.

Those actions violated bail conditions barring him from possessing or viewing explicit images according to WABI news.

He was sentenced to six months with credit for time served and will spend roughly two-and-a-half months behind bars.

Cutler still has about three years of probation remaining from his original sentence.

Toyota Recalls 2026 RAV4 Plug-In Hybrids

Toyota is recalling more than 30,000 2026 RAV4 plug-in hybrids over a software issue that could cause a loss of power.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the flaw could cause the hybrid system to reduce power or shut down entirely at higher speeds.

That malfunction would increase the risk of a crash for drivers and passengers.

Toyota dealers will install a free software update to fix the problem.

Owners are expected to be notified by mail by early December.

Maine State Museum Reopening to Feature Rebekah Raye Art

The Maine State Museum in Augusta, closed since 2020, will celebrate the grand reopening of its new Lunder Education Center on Saturday, October 24.

The centerpiece for young learners is a 7-foot interactive white pine tree and 16-foot woodland mural designed by East Blue Hill artist Rebekah Raye.

The Ellsworth American reports Raye spent years researching Maine wildlife, visiting sanctuaries like Birdsacre, and painting panels in her studio that were later enlarged onto vinyl wallpaper.

Museum educators say the extra planning time during pandemic closures and asbestos renovations allowed for far richer detail.

Opening day runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a ribbon cutting, music, activities and a food truck.

Dedham Students Bury Time Capsule to be Opened in 2076

Students at the Dedham School helped bury a community time capsule beside the school flagpole on October 14.

Organized by the Dedham Historical Society after a year-and-a-half of planning, the capsule holds town histories, fire department shirts, business mementos, a Phillips Lake watershed study, and student writings about their futures.

The project marks Lucerne’s 100th anniversary in 2025, the Lucerne Golf Club’s centennial, and America’s 250th birthday in 2026.

The Ellsworth American reports, packed in waterproof containers inside a sealed cooler, it is set to be unearthed in 2076.

Every student tossed in a shovelful of dirt before a stone marker was placed on top.
